She just does what she pleases

'Cause she's happy on her own

And she picks up all the pieces

She's going home

"Home" by Caribou

They say Cancer* carries its home wherever it is. So do I (proud solar cancerian).

Home is inseparable from me, and vice versa. I carry it whenever I am.

I build a home around me: be it at work, while traveling, living in multiple apartments or people.

My cancerian colleague playing German techno for my office desk succulent. Ain't they both cute?

But when does something or someone becomes a home?

As a Cancer, I trust my intuition here.

And no, I won't be justifying all my behaviours through my Zodiac sign, even though I'm a big astrology nerd.

Home is something that I create almost instantly, without giving it a thought. Cute, warm and comfy - who wouldn't want that, right?

Chicken soup for the soul.

DISCLAIMER: If I've done any of the things below to you, consciously or unconsciously, means, I tried to "build" a home with you:

  • brought your fav snacks to you (or home made cookies)

  • shared or played music with you

  • created a playlist for you/shared playlist with you

  • offered you to take a plant from me

  • offered you to help with house chores

  • covered you with a blanket/gave you a sweater

  • said "feel like home" or gave an extra pillow to make you feel comfortable

  • took you our for lunch in your fav place/bought you a coffee

  • goofed around to the point of getting weird (my goofiness is sometimes scary)

Food is big on the list, but I wouldn't be me to repeat the obvious "home is where heart is":

where you can walk around naked all day, wrap yourself in a blanket when it's cold, make yourself a hot beverage, and just sit and stare outside, listening to street sounds.

My most enjoyed "home" activities are:

  • you guessed it... cooking! Especially "saving" products that otherwise would end up in trash by turning them into delicious meals

ree
Have you ever tried cauliflower puree with sardines, basil and dried tomatoes?

  • listening to music (as you could've noticed from my epigraphs, smart pants)

  • playing guitar & singing

  • reading (poetry, newspapers, white papers, comic books, recipe books, horoscopes etc)

  • writing (hellooo, I'm writing this home right now)

  • sleeping

  • drawing (sketching, painting, doing all sorts of artsy things)

  • meditating

  • exercising

  • planting (once I got a bag of soil happiness overfloated)

  • cleaning while listening to some audiobook or music and dancing

The last one I actually wish I could be doing more often (or rather, I should), but seems like I am too comfortable with the mess I live it. Because it's home. Because it's a part of my chaos-torn heart, which tries to capture the moment so naively before it passes.

Home doesn't go. You return to it over and over, every day, falling asleep and waking up in the same bed. It gives you stability. It gives you sense of belonging. Safety. Security.

I want to wrap every person and place around me with those.

Perhaps, writing will allow me to do it in a way - by making you feel a bit more comfy, relaxed and happier with the place you call home (I'm pretty sure you checked out a few bullets above yourselves!)

For the people, who are home to me, I will dedicate individual love-filled stories.

Sorry dears. I can't help it.

But hey, I made a home-filled-with-love playlist for you! Enjoy!

*Cancer and cancerian as a Zodiac sign in here. Yes #astrology references will be popping up here from time to time, so bear with it.
